Pond algae is an all natural way for your pond or water garden to try and balance the various elements of your pond out and keep it in good shape.

This may sound like an off-the-wall statement until you think about it.

Algae cannot thrive if there are not enough nutrients in the water for it to prosper.  In the same way, excessive sunlight can help plants grow better as well.  So when these two elements are combined, algae can really take off in any size of pond.

Pond algae can also come in a number of forms including string algae, green water or planktonic algae, or floating surface scum.  None of these tend to be very attractive or pleasant and some actually smell really badly as well.
